Under the guidance of alderman Gert-Jan Krabbendam of the Municipality of Maastricht, the starting signal was given for the redevelopment of the Brussels Poort shopping center. Together with the owner HB Capital, developer 3W, the representative of the retailers association and contractor Smeets Bouw, the start-up operation was carried out with loud applause.
The renovation of the entire shopping center starts on Artsenijstraat. The glass roof will be demolished, the retail units will have new facades and a new entrance will be built. The parking area will also be redesigned. In the coming year and a half, the existing shopping center will be renovated step by step. The center will receive a partially new layout, store fronts, ceilings and floor finishes. There will also be new entrance buildings and a few minor extensions.
In phase 2, a completely new extension will be added on the side of the Eenhoornsingel with a parking garage and 2 storeys of shops, virtually doubling the retail space. The addition of homes and leisure in connection with the adjacent development is still being studied.
AGS Architects has made the new design in an integral collaboration between our offices in Amsterdam and Heerlen and is further developing the project from an architectural point of view.
