Multifunctional accommodation with swimming pool, commercial areas, residences and a parking garage in Alphen aan de Rijn. The accommodation exists of a swimming pool, commercial areas, a public parking garage with 175 parking spaces and 36 apartments. After a devastating fire at the former swimming pool ‘de Termen’, a new high quality swimming facility is developed where water polo can be played at international levels. Striking aspects include the levitating platform at 4 meters above ground and the facade covered by expanded metal. The 10-lane pool can be split into a 25m competition pool and a 10m multipurpose pool by a vertical, submersible lever partition. Both pools contain movable floors. Multiple measures have been taken to improve sustainability, amongst which: thermal energy storage systems, combined heat and power (CHP) systems, solar boilers, PV-cells, heat pumps, CO2 and humidity control of the air-conditioning systems. A remarkable component is the blinding integrated in the glass. Parking areas are partially located below the pool.
